After the summer break, students return to school, workers to work and older people like me to organizing activities and making decisions. As a human being, I am not blind about what happens in the world. My epilepsy doesn’t make me unaware of things: climate change is here and we all have something to do; gender violence is a social malfunction and we must contribute to its eradication; violence, in general, is increasing every day and we all should get involved to solve it; bullying, social media harassment, the vulnerability of older people, their loneliness, illnesses… and so many other things to fight for. Instead of waiting for others to fix it, let’s think about what we can do each one of us.
That’s why, when deciding how I can contribute, I look for activities in which I can help make this world a more habitable place. Therefore, I will continue with my participation in the Asociación Nacional de Personas con Epilepsia-ANPE. Also, I’ll continue writing in this blog, knowing that it can help someone not to see epilepsy as a problem but as an opportunity to do things differently. I will recycle in my house everything I can, I will collaborate in working groups against gender violence, I will fight for the equality of women and men…
Instead of waiting for others to fix it, let’s think about what we can do each one of us
We are people with epilepsy, yes, but we are people living in the world and we can do many good things
We all can do something in our environment, in our home. We are all part of this world and we all have to make things every time a little better, in all aspects, although it seems that we have worked hard, so far, to do the opposite. Therefore, I ask you: make the decision to collaborate, to be positive, to get involved and not wait for others to solve problems. We are people with epilepsy, yes, but we are people living in the world and we can do many good things.
For example, education in values is learned at home. And, for me, education is the basis for the resolution of most problems. At home we all have to collaborate: father, mother, sons and daughters, and all of them can do everything. They will be children educated with equality values amongst men and women.
Well, I hope you make good decisions for this year and that epilepsy doesn’t stop you, instead, that it pushes you to do better.
