Hello Jordina, we are with the CSO of mjn-neuro. She defines herself as an engineer, innovator, and serial entrepreneur. Her goal is to empower the use of technology and innovation to improve people’s quality of life.
How did you know about mjn-neuro?
I met David during an immersion programme in Boston, while I was leading my previous endeavour. Since then, we have maintained a good relationship. mjn-neuro’s Project had been very interesting to me since I knew about it, and I had also been involved in projects on the technology and healthcare field.
When I decided to take a step aside on my previous endeavor I encountered Salva and David during a MWC, where the opportunity to become part of the team arose.
What attracted you to this project?
The idea of helping people through technology is something that has always been appealing to me. As mentioned before, I had always been linked to the technology and healthcare world. I studied engineering and my family is working on the healthcare field, therefore, working on a field that bridges the two worlds is something I have always wanted to. Moreover, using technology to help people and to do my bit to make this a better world it’s where I have focused my career.
When I met David and he has explained me his personal story, why he has created mjn-neuro, and when he has shown me the envisioned solution, I thought it was a great idea with a huge potential, therefore, when I had the opportunity I did not think it twice to become part of the team!
How do you bring innovation and creativity into this project?
My role is to help with the definition and execution of the company’s strategy, supporting the C level decisions. So, from my point of view, creativity, and innovation, together with the experience, are key to understand the business and build a strategy that grants the success of a Startup.
You have closely worked with patients and healthcare professionals during your professional career. Did you know epilepsy before?
The truth is that until I met David, and especially when I became part of the company, I did not fully know the illness. I had had contact with neurological and mental diseases, but I had never worked directly with epilepsy.
Using technology to help people and to do my bit to make this a better world it’s where I have focused my career
Do you think society is familiar with this disease?
Honestly, I think that in general there is not much knowledge regarding the illness, and there is a lot of stigma. When you talk with people about epilepsy, everyone knows the illness, because they have heard about it or they know someone suffering from it, but they do not know in deep the impact it has on patients, their beloved ones, and their caregivers.
How do you think medical professionals are accepting innovations in technology?
They are increasingly open to the incorporation of technologies that can help them on their day to day life, and especially, to those that can help their patients. In this scenario, more and more they foresee in our device a possible solution that can bring them benefits on their clinical practice, and that can improve the quality of life of their patients.
And… What about patients? Do we solve their needs? That is to say, is there an added value to improve their quality of life?
This is the strongest point of our solution, being able to alert patients in advance a seizure occurs can mean a radical change on their life, improving it substantially because we can not only avoid accidents, but we can reduce other comorbidities such as anxiety and depression, that is very common among epilepsy patients.
With the current uncertainty, do you think there are still opportunities for growth? More than before?
Absolutely, the need is still existing and we have developed a solution fully adapted to the market. Crisis are always a source of opportunities, and we believe that the current situation will help us on being more creative, thinking on other developments and innovations that can allow us help during these times we are living. In the end, we are a social company that aims to improve people’s quality of life.
Congratulations on the awards obtained in recent years. For mjn-neuro it is a pleasure that you are part of the team. Thanks Jordina!
