THE SCHOOL YEAR ENDS
June is here. The school year is ending and summer vacation is beginning. For students and teachers, many parents now face a problem: what to do with their children while they’re away on vacation. For many, there’s the option of grandparents, but not everyone has them nearby, or simply doesn’t. Others choose to take their children to camp, but not everyone has that option.
In our case, summer is an extraordinary time when the whole family gets together, at least for a few days. This year we’re going to Salou, to an apartment that fits the eight of us. Salou takes me back to my childhood and teenage years, as my godparents owned a tower there, and for many years, my parents and I would go there for a few days. Besides, Salou is the beach for Zaragoza residents, and, as you know, I’m from Zaragoza, although I now live in Madrid.
On May 31st, we celebrated my husband’s 70th birthday (although he had already turned 70 on December 30th). It was a wonderful party. We held it at our house, next to the Entrepeñas Reservoir. People very dear to us came from Lorca, Coruña, Cartagena, Bilbao, El Prat, Tres Cantos, Rivas, Madrid, Pozuelo, and Zaragoza. It was very hot, but we opened the pool, and children and adults who wanted to could take a dip and cool off.
I wish all the students a successful completion of their school year. And may you all have a pleasant vacation without too much heat.
It’s nice to get together and reminisce. To meet up with old friends who, even if you don’t see them, you know are always there. And I’m convinced that people with epilepsy have a very pronounced sensitivity to feelings of friendship, affection, and feeling loved. I felt it that day, even though the birthday boy was my husband, who is very easy to love, hence the success of the event.
I wish all the students a successful completion of their school year. May families be able to plan for those days when the children already have vacation time and the parents don’t. And may you all have a pleasant vacation without too much heat.
